About This Item

Edinborgh & London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1895. John Galt (1779-1839) had several colonial business ventures that met with limited success; but in the 1820s he wrote several novels of Scottish country life that are very well-regarded indeed. Originally published in 1821, here is a nice little late Victorian set, two volumes in Very Good (Plus) condition. Red ribbed cloth binding, decoratively blindstamped on the front covers, with gilt lettering on the front covers and spines. Clean text; 221 pages and 302 pages, with Notes. Portrait and illustrations by John Wallace; introduction by S.R. Crockett. The Works were Edited by D. Storrar Meldrum. Top edges are gilt, others rough-cut. Minimal wear and soil; Volume One has rubbing across the title. Both volumes have penciled notations on the rear paste-downs; if desired, they would be easily erased. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Thus.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. Illus. by John Wallace.
