1825. Lithograph on brown washed paper with white heightening, 290 x 370 mm., mounted.

Carle Vernet (1758-1836) was trained by his father, Claude-Joseph. He won the Prix de Rome in 1782 and the Legion of Honor in 1808 with one of his battle scenes. Vernet was a horseman, riding until his death and often depicting animals in his paintings.
