About This Item

A striking and monumental work commemorating the status quo of Armenian arts, literature, science, and the economy, with only one volume published, for the year 1932. Likely intended as a kind of overview of fifteen years of developments since the October Revolution in Russia (the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia was established three years later, in 1920). The volume was edited by the famous and most celebrated Armenian writers, the futurist and propagator of avant-garde tendencies, Yeghishe Charents (1897-1937). The end papers, drawings, and rich ornaments throughout were designed by the Armenian painter and illustrator, Hakob Kojoyan (1883-1959). With appealing typographic design throughout in the style of Soviet constructivism. The contents include sections on Armenian literature, literary heritage, music, the fine arts, theater, dancing, film, and architecture. A separate part is devoted to education and science, including social "enlightenment", the role of state publishers, and scientific research in Soviet Armenia. Other topics discussed include healthcare, the Red Army, the Pioneer movement, industry and agriculture.

As of August 2023, KVK, OCLC show two copies in North America.
