About This Item

Boston: R.G. Badger, 1921. Presumed first edition/first printing thus. Hardcover. Poor. 386 p. 22 cm. "Sold only to members of the recognized professions." Glossary. List of Books. Index. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. Cover worn and soiled. Hinges weak and partially separated Pages 269-272 disbound but present. Part of page 97-98 missing, with noticeable loss of text. Pencil marks and comments on some pages noted. The author (1866-1928) published extensively on the topic of human sexuality. The author had pronounced views on sexuality activity outside of marriage, and felt that "the whole community [should] share in providing such economic conditions was would enable every man and woman to marry at the proper age." The author also 'would sterilize those who were surely unfit to procreate and allow them to marry among themselves afterward." This is part of the Rational Sex Series. Fascinating snapshot of the stake of knowledge and state of practice after the First World War. Sex education is instruction on issues relating to human sexuality, including emotional relations and responsibilities, human sexual anatomy, sexual activity, sexual reproduction, reproductive health, reproductive rights, safe sex, birth control and sexual abstinence. Sex education that covers all of these aspects is known as "comprehensive sex education". Common avenues for sex education are parents or caregivers, formal school programs, and public health campaigns. The progressive education movement of the late 19th century, however, led to the introduction of "social hygiene" in North American school curricula and the advent of school-based sex education.
