About This Item

London: " The Bazaar " Office. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1885. Unknown, but presumably a New Edition combining the 2 Series.. Hardcover. In the original dark maroon cloth boards with gilt titling to the spine and front cover with an oblong 'buttterfly' illustration in bright gilt to the front board as well. SERIES 1 and 2. Some slight rubbing to the extremities, a little light fading to the colour, and some small loss to the head/tail of the spine - most hardly noticable. Overall the book presents very well. Internally plain lemon endpapers, some marks (thumbing? ) to the front endpapers. NO Inscriptions or other major marks, overall VERY clean, tight and bright. (2 - half-title /Illustrated advert for George Rowney & Co's Materials for Porcelain Painting, etc) + 112 pp + 1 Contents page, + 3 pp Adverts + 32 page Illustrated Catalogue of 'New and Practical Books' at the end. No date shown, but in the Catalogue is a reference to 'Kennel Annual and Diary for 1885' so this book is likely 1884 or 1885. Presumably a New Edition combining the 2 Series. It appears Series One was published in 1879 alone. Black and white highly decorative initials to chapters, and many b/w figs to most chapters. Contents cover = Colouring Photographs; Imitation Stained Glass; Decalcomanie; Queen Shell Work; Painting on China; Japanese Lacquer Work; Stencilling; Painting Magic Lantern Slides; Menu and Guest Cards; Spatter Work; Picture or Scrap Screens; Frosted Silver Work; Picture Cleaning and Restoring; and Illuminating and Symbolical Colouring. Not only a marvellous period piece but full of fascinating and practical information/adverts. A Very clean, tight and bright copy. Quite Scarce. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
