About This Item

Angus & Robertson Publishers, Sydney, 1983. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Richard A. Smolicz. Foreword and introduction by author and glossary. Dark burgundy coloured and pages. The text is illustrated with coloured drawings and paintings by Richard A. Smolicz. Dull dark green coloured boards with white coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, again by Richard A. Smolicz, with guilt coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the backstrip. "Far too often the records of historical houses of Australia have dwelt on grandiose, especially the replicas of Georgian mansions left behind in England. But the real-time their homes were built by the battlers, the underprivileged settlers, many of them escaped convicts. Their houses were rarely designed. They just grew from the primitive materials and simple tools that were at hand. Here is a fascinating historical and architectural account of these pioneer dwellings, together with the very earliest Australian shelters, built by the Aborigines." -- front fold over blurb. Rubbing of the backstrip corners and of the book corners. Very light age toning of the text block edges. A little rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels and the laminate of the dustwrapper has bubbled on both the front and rear panels. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [9], 10 - 156, [2] pages,.
