About This Item
SHAW, GEORGE BERNARD.
Autograph postcard with printed letterhead, signed with initials "GBS" to Alfred Feuer Jr (USA) discussing children and the transmissibility of genius. 1 page, 12mo; slight creasing to lower right corner, addressed in holograph on verso. Welwyn, dated 11 March 1947. A brilliant example of Shaw's wit and analysis: "The fathers and sons of geniuses are mostly nobodies. Human stock, like agricultural, needs fallow as well as foison. Adopted children are always available; and they are the best loved and cared for. My works are my children. I should be too much occupied with them to look after the commonplace sort properly. Genius in a family is a nuisance."
