About This Item

Dublin: Hodges & Smith, 1850. 1st . Hardcover. Very Good. First printing. Pp: ii, 260, frontis + 15 more plates, 2 maps in text, large folding map in rear, quarto format, about 7" X 9.75", 18 cm X 25 cm. Text is complete with all plates and maps. Surprisingly, there is no noticeable foxing or wear to any of the plates or the folding map, just some darkening, mostly to the margins. No tears to the text or to the map. Very minimal light foxing to the text pages. Each plate has a one-inch blindstamp impression, three to the folding map. These impressions have also slightly affected the facing leaves but are not terribly objectionable The binding is not original, but an attractive burgundy buckram with titles, including dewey number, neatly stamped in gilt. The binding appears to be early 20th century and shows virtually no wear, hinges very tight. Neat bookplate from a Museum Library on the front endpaper. A very attractive example of this very rare book. Images available.
