Cain's collection of short stories. The author is known for his 'hardboiled' crime novels and stories, such as his "The Postman Always Rings Twice" and "Double Indemnity." Edited by Roy Hoopes with a special introductory note by Alfred Kazin and illustrations by Will Harmuth. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Holt, Rinehart and Winston trade edition. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. --- Bound in full dark grey bonded leather covers with three raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Violet silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- With slight sunning to edges of moire endpapers, otherwise an about-Fine copy, lacking additional damages: crisp, tightly-bound, bright and probably unread.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (12), 305 pages .
