BINDING/CONDITION: this is small format book, from a uniformly bound issue of The World's Classics series, black binding with publisher's device blind stamped on cover, gilt spine text; a Very Good book, with a Very Good dust jacket; the jacket is price clipped.. 6.25 inches tall . Description: Dust jacket art by Lynton Lamb (this edition is not illustrated). Originally published in book form 1866, the World's Classics edition was first published in 1923. ''Set chiefly in Somerset, the subject is the dilemma of Clara Amedroz, who is courted by two men, both of whom have in a sense dispossessed her. Will Belton, her farmer cousin, a somewhat uncouth man, has inherited her father's estate; Captain Aylmer, another cousin and a local Member of Parliament, has inherited from their rich aunt the property that might have made provision for Clara. The contrast in temperaments and motives of these two men, and the vicissitudes of their relations with Clara, are subtly developed; the flawless structure of the book and smooth flowing narrative show Trollope's technical skill at its best.'' Volume Number 251 in the Oxford World's Classics Series.
