A first printing of the University of Nebraska Press softcover reprint edition of a collection of letters, mostly between Captain Frederick Benteen and Private Theodore Goldin. The two both fought in the Battle of the Little Bighorn, in which Gen. George Custer was killed, along with over 200 fellow US Army soldiers. The letters provide keen insights into the actual events of the battle. With a handful of black & white photos showing various people mentioned in the book. This work originally published by Liveright, c.1974. --- In stiff gold wraps with Tom Eckersley image of Custer to front panel. --- A clean, tightly-bound, bright copy lacking markings but with mild creasing to covers and a tiny remainder mark to textblock lower edge.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xxiv, 312 pages .
