Appendices: Berlioz’s compositions, with and without opus numbers. His librettists. Dedicatees of his works; His autograph manuscripts and their locations. Histories of his French publishers and dated lists of their plate-numbers. Principal biographical and critical books about Berlioz. Illustrations: Frontispiece portrait and 21 full-page plates of title-pages. The present edition is a facsimile reprint of the main body of the original work (from pp ix-205) with the following additional matter: Editor's note. Foreword by Alec Hyatt King. Appendix giving details of the New Berlioz Edition and listing the previously-unpublished works that it will contain. Notes, additions, corrections and revisions (amounting to more than 450); these are referred to numerically in the margins of the book, at the relevant points on the page. General index. Thus, while retaining all the original features of Hopkinson’s book, this new edition adds substantially to its usefulness and comprehensiveness and reflects the enormous increase during the past three decades in our knowledge and awareness of Berlioz’s music.
