About This Item

Annapolis, MD: Naval Institute Press, 2013 Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, MD. 2013. Hardcover. Stated First Printing and First Printing by Line Number. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: New. DJ: New. White grained boards with black overlay on the spine with bright silver lettering on the spine. 229 pp 8vo. The Battle for Okinawa was the bloodiest battle of the Pacific War and the greatest air-sea battle in history. This book focuses on the vital role played by the US Army's forward artillery observers. They were the eyes and ears of American artillery and among the least-recognized heroes of the war as they directed artillery against enemy positions while dealing with the ever-present possibility of firing on their own troops. The ability to shift artillery fire was new in WWII and very successful on Okinawa due to the short response times to requests for fire and placement on Japanese troops. A clean pristine copy.
