About This Item

NY: Scribner, 1888. First edn. 8vo, pp. 314. Feminist activist Alice Stone Blackwell's Copy with her ownership signature on the e. p. Staining to the bottom half of the covers which bleeds through to the end papers. A tight copy other than that. BAL 2346. Cable moved to Massachusetts after his calls for prison reform and greater rights for Blacks alienated him from some in Louisiana. It may very have been that he knew the abolitionist Blackwells while in Boston.
