Eduardo Galeano (1940 2015) was an Uruguayan journalist, novelist considered a a literary giant of the Latin American left. Galeano's best-known works are 'Open Veins of Latin America' (1971) and the 'Memory of Fire Trilogy' (19826). "I'm a writer," the author once said of himself, "obsessed with remembering, with remembering the past of America and above all that of Latin America, intimate land condemned to amnesia." 'The Book of Embraces' is a collection of vignettes that are formatted in mosaic-like manner. The vignettes discuss topics ranging from political commentary to explorations of philosophical themes; interspersed among Galeanos reminiscences and reflections of his own intimate experiences. The novel is a metaphorical embrace that Galeano imparts to his contemporaries and like-minded thinkers. It serves as a record of the past and an encouragement of a continued fight against capitalist and imperialist forces. This text may be seen as a celebration of art, friendship, courage, and the human voice. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 281 pages .
