About This Item

UK: James Barrie. Very Good in Fair dust jacket. 1956. First Edition. Hardcover. Everything you ever wanted to know about the fur trade. Maroon boards with bright gilt titling to spine. In the original publishers' pictorial (b/w) dustjacket. Price Clipped. The dustjacket has been heavily repaired with masking tape to the edges, etc, by a former owner as there was originally chipping to edges of d/j, and some loss to the top of the spine, etc, - the masking tape overlaps to the front of the d/j but has been coloured to match and amazingly (in MY opinion) has actually improved the d/j. Top edge red. Slight light 'tanning' to the page fore-edges. No inscriptions, (ix) + 185 pp. Coloured frontispiece plus 15 black and white illustrations at the end of book. Hinges sound, internally, apart from a little light foxing to the endpapers, this is a Very Clean, tight and bright, and overall the whole book is Good Plus/VG. The contents include : - The Fur Trade; Furs Generally; Furs in Particular = Rabbit, Sheepskin; Mole; Marmot. Peschaniki; Pony; Squirrel; etc, etc; and a Note on Maintenance, Insurance and Fashion. An interesting book on a trade, now considered politically incorrect, but which was once a major supplier to the Fashion Trade, etc. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
