Macmillan and Co., Limited, London, 1920. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition. Illustrator: Illustrated. Preface and introduction by author and index. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white line drawings and illustrations. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured decoration and embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. First published in 1899 a classic work on botany that was used as a textbook for many generations. Bumping and a little fraying of the book corners with the underlying board visible. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with dulling of the cloth of the board with handling marks visible. Age toning to the text block edges along with some spotting. Offset tanning and a little foxing to the end pages and previous owners name has been in expertly scrubbed out to the top edge of the free front end page. On page 3 there is a series of illustrations depicting mineral kingdom, vegetable kingdom and animal kingdom – the illustration depicting the human figure been coloured in – with the annotation of Annette Kellerman pencil been by a previous owner – please see photograph. The selfsame previous owner has coloured in some of the illustrations as well. Reissue with Additions. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
