About This Item

New York: The Waterloo Press, 1909. Edition not stated. Octavo ( 18cm); green cloth, stamped in gilt, photo-illustration of author tipped on front; TEG; 70pp, frontis, 16 plates. Smudging, rubbing and wear to boards; front illustration has small chip. Textblock foxed, with smudges and handling wear; bindings slightly shaken; author signature on frontispiece. Overall, just about Very Good.

William "Bobs" Culver Roberts Jr. was the son of a succesful businessman, William Culver Roberts, then-owner and president of the Brooklyn-based Roberts Numbering Machine Company. As gleaned from the title, this book contains his own account (with b/w photographs) of a family vacation to the Mediterranean, including Portugal (where he made a little girlfriend), the Rock of Gibraltar, Cairo, Rome, and Monte Carlo. Sadly, the father to whom Bobs so tenderly dedicated his book passed away two years after its publication. Bobs himself graduated from Princeton in 1922 and married in 1936 (Spoilers: He did not marry his Portuguese girlfriend).
