About This Item

Boston & Laramie: Isaac Van Horn & Co, 1901. First Edition. 4to, 11.5" x 9.5," [146]pp. Beige cloth lettered in gilt. Near fine with light wear and soiling to edges of boards. Internally sound and clean with original one page contract for the purchase of a subscription to the trust with manuscript corrections laid in. Turn of the century promotional book for Laramie, compliments of the Isaac Van Horn banking firm. Illustrated throughout with photographic plates of the area and includes a map of the railroad lines.
The trust, with an end goal of a mining operation in the Gold Hill district, was to buy a controlling interest in Wyoming railroad, mining, processing, utility, banking, lumber, and other companies. The scheme did not pan out, later collapsing when Van Horn declared bankruptcy.
