As the author writes in the preface, "it is not a book for the scientist nor the collector, but for the bird-lover, who may be either, or neither...or all three". Author Emma Louise Turner (1867-1940) became interested in photography after meeting wildlife photographer Richard Kearton in 1900 and shortly after joined the Royal Photographic Society. She travelled extensively around the UK and Europe to photograph various birds, but her main base was in the Norfolk Broads. In the publisher's original green cloth binding with gilt spine title.
