About This Item

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons/The Knickerbocker Press, 1899. First Edition. Octavo. From the Abel Berland library with his bookplate tipped in. 282pp., illustrated. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Browning from a painting by his son. This is much like a biography of Browning. The author writes of his ancestry and youth, Elizabeth Browning, Married life, later Life, Opinions of Contemporaries, the Browning Societies and more. Bound in full brown crushed morocco decorated in gilt with a central red and gilt floral design, flat spine lettered and decorated in gilt and red marbled endpapers framed in a gilt decorated morocco stamped G.P. Putnam's Sons in gilt, rear board stamped The Knickerbocker Press in gilt, top edge gilt, upper joint a bit fragile, rubbed and darkened, another bookplate from the library of Marjorie and Jack Rapoport. A very nice copy.
