About This Item

West Warwick, RI: Necronomicon Press, 1977. First Edition. The eighth publication from NP, contains all of Lovecraft's appearances in Hyman Bradofsky's noted amateur journal, including the SUMMER 1937 issue, "Dedicated to the Memory of the Late Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Essays, poetry, criticism, letters, and memorials by those who knew him. Additionally, there is an excellent biography of Hyman Bradofsky by Dirk W. Mosig in his foreword to the volume: Born in 1906 in New York city , Bradofsky's family moved to California in 1922, To pay for his legal education, he took a job with the Santa Fe railroad until the California earthquake of 1933, when he accepted a job for $3 a day" to help remove and reshelve records and books at the damaged Los Angeles Country Law Library. He did his job so well he was offered the job of county clerk of Pomona, California for $60 a week; a position he held for more than 40 years, His CALIFORNIAN was a unique amateur journal by the standards; not only was it printed on excellent paper, the quality printing and number of pages, but Bradofsky insisted upon the highest literary standards, and received contributions from HPL, Robert H. Barlow, and other members of the Lovecraft Circle. Bradofsky was devoted to amateur journalism his entire life, donating money, and generously giving of his time in his later years to THE FOSSILL. Bradofsky, not unlike Lovecraft, shunned modern life: he never smoke or drank, never married, never owned a car, a television, or even a telephone! Signed by Marc Michaud, the publisher, and limited to 1000 numbered copies.
