An excellent first edition of this illustrated biography of the eccentric novelist William Beckford by H. A. N. Brockman. The first edition of this exciting work by H. A. N. Brockman. Concerning the life and environment of the eccentric novelist William Beckford, who lived during the reign of Queen Victoria and was regarded at some point as the richest commoner in England. He is best remembered for the story of Vathek and the building of Fonthill Abbey and the Lansdown Tower in Bath. An intriguing and engaging biography of a man who led an active, disciplined, and intelligent life from which scandal was never absent. With the unclipped dustwrapper. With various illustrations throughout. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor shelfwear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Inscribed by a previous owner in pencil to the rear blank pages, signed in pencil to the front free endpaper. the dustwrapper is sound with slight shelf wear and a loss to the tail of the spine. Minor sunning to the tail of the spine. the dustwrapper has been tape repaired internally to the head and tail of the spine. Unclipped. internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with only a minor faint tidemark to the gutter of the title page, not affecting text. With various illustrations and a map showing Beckford's estate to the endpapers. Very Good Indeed
