About This Item

London, James Madden 1852. 8vo. Original printed card wrappers; pp. xvi, 155; apart from light marking to wrappers, as new. Uncommon first edition. The Scottish hack writer and philanthropic campaigner wrote this pamphlet on behalf of National Association for the Protection of Industry and Capital, dealing mainly with sugar production and taxes after the abolition of slavery in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Guiana, St. Vincent, and other territories in the West Indies, thereby giving detailed descriptions of the work conditions.
