The Cloister and the Hearth A Tale of the Middle Ages is Charles Reade's most known novel. The novel is historical and relates the travels of a young scribe and illuminator through several European countries during the 15th Century. Charles Reade was a British novelist and dramatist. This is a lovely vellum bound copy of this work with sixteen illustrations by Maurice Lalau and a photogravure portrait of the author. Collated, complete. In half vellum with cloth covered boards. Externally, lovely. Previous owner inscription to the front free endpaper dated 1905. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good Indeed
