New York: Random House. Very Good in Good+ dust jacket. 1943. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 1st issue with "The" on spine, tinted top edges, and blue background on title page. Slight crushing on spine ends and a very faint small mark on back cover (may be a bleed through of bindery glue). Jacket is browned -- especially so on spine and has edgewear including loss on spine ends (1/8" on top, 3/8" on bottom), chip on bottom edge of front panel and a tape-mended 1/2" tear at bottom edge of rear panel. Jacket in mylar sleeve. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 900 pages .
Synopsis
William Cuthbert Faulkner was a Nobel Prize-winning American novelist and short story writer. He was also a published poet and an occasional screenwriter. His novel, The Collected Stories of William Faulkner, won the National Book Award in 1951. This collection contains 42 stories, some from an earlier collection, and others previously unpublished. There are Southern gothic tales, strings of short stories that take place during the Great War, stories that are post and ante-bellum stories of the South and even stories about aviators, and the homeless. This immense collection showcases his finest bodies of work and is a true exploration of the best American literature of the twentieth century. Among the 42 selections in this book are such classics as A Bear Hunt, A Rose for Emily, Two Soldiers, The Brooch, That Evening Sun, Barn Burning, Shall Not Perish, and Dry September.
