About This Item

London: Ray Society, sold by Bernard Quaritch, Ltd., 1939, 1941. First edition. Hardcover in full cloth. Very good. 2 Octavos (standard size). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards. V. 1 has a bump at head of spine, and an armorial bookplate on the first pastedown. V.1 is brown cloth, p. w/19 b&w plates of spiders. V.2 is blue cloth, with 3 additonal plates. 560 p. Both volumes have the author's initials surrounded by vines in gilt on the front board and gilt lettering to spine. Bristowe was a well known British naturalist and authority on spiders.
