1849. [LEVER, Charles]. CONFESSIONS OF CON. CREGAN: The Irish Gil Blas. With illustrations on Wood and Steel by Hablot K. Brown. London: Wm. S. Orr, [1849]. Two 8vo volumes. First edition. Half title in volume 2 only (as described by Sadleir). Illustrated with 28 engraved plates by Phiz and many text illustrations after Phiz. In Volume 2, as noted in Wolff, the plate listed for p. 261, "Con and the Marchesa," appears as frontispiece. Half-bound in green morocco by Stikeman, over marbled paper-covered boards, with matching endpapers, raised bands and gilt decoration at spines, t.e.g. Sun to spines and edges, slight shelfwear to edges. Front hinges tender. Text and illustrations are quite clean. Original front cover and spine bound-in at rear publisher's blanks of Vol. I; (red cloth, with gilt title and decoration to spine, and blind-stamped frames to cover). Very good. (Wolff 4080, Sadleir 1397).
