Finely bound in quarter brown morocco over cloth boards, the spine with raised bands and with blind ruling and gilt lettering. Decorative floral endpapers.Top edge gilt. 255 pp, decorated title page, 12 illustrations, 11 tailpieces and decorated endpapers all by Hassall. Fine condition.
¶ The first impression of this edition of CRANFORD was published in 1940, and most of it was destroyed when the publisher's warehouse was bombed during the Blitz - making this the earliest 'available' printing of the Hassall Illustrated edition.
