London: Published by Seeley & Company, Essex Street, Strand, 1889. First Edition with These Illustrations.. Folio, original royal blue cloth lettered and decorated in gilt. 124 pp., Title-page printed in red and black, the text is set in Caslon type and printed on hand-made paper. With 12 full-page photogravure plates finely reproduced after etchings by Palmer. Neat ink inscription on front free endpaper, dated December, 1888 (showing that publication was in late 1888, not 1889 as stated on the title leaf). Corners lightly bruised, light wear to cloth at spine head, a very good, sound copy, clean and attractive. With a Preface by A.H. Palmer. The text following Warton's edition, but omiting Warton's notes. Samuel Palmer RWS, Honourable Fellow of the Society of Painter-Etchers (1805-1881) was a British landscape painter, etcher and printmaker, and a key figure in Romanticism in Britain, producing visionary pastoral paintings. Palmer's illustrations for Milton's poems are beautifully executed.
