Old leather and marbled boards, leather labels at spine, covers quite worn, Fair, exlib, contents good with light toning. Two volumes in one. Sir Thomas Noon Talfourd, (1795-1854), was an intimate friend of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Godwin, Hazlitt, and Charles Lamb. He was a drama critic, but best known as a writer of tragedies, but found to be too wordy for the modern taste. He was also a member of Parliament. Sir James Stephen, (1789-1859), was a civil servant and under-secretary for the colonies, 1836-1847, and later a professor at Cambridge..
