Red cloth boards with title label to spine; dark topstain. Ex-library, though with relatively few markings. Dust jacket lightly foxed and rubbed along edges and free of institutional markings. Boards show moderate edgewear; spine faded; general soiling and scuffing. Binding is sound. Institutional stamp to bottom edge of text block (mostly erased by previous owner); jacket remnants, tape repair, and library stamp to endpapers; inner half of rear endpaper pasted down to pastedown; some marginal staining; pages else unmarked. Still a Very Good and presentable copy of West's classic and devastating Hollywood novel.
Synopsis
The Day of the Locust is a 1939 novel by American author Nathanael West, set in Hollywood, California during the Great Depression, depicting the alienation and desperation of a disparate group of individuals who exist at the fringes of the movie industry. Time Magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005, and noted critic Harold Bloom included it in his list of canonical works in the book The Western Canon.
