Finely bound collection of three of the author's best-known works, including her first novel: Death Comes for the Archbishop. Octavos, three volumes bound in three quarters morocco over marbled boards, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, marbled endpapers. Armorial bookplate to the pastedown of two volumes. In very good condition. American author Willa Cather achieved recognition for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains, including O Pioneers! (1913), The Song of the Lark (1915), and My Antonia (1918). In 1923, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours (1922), a novel set during World War I. She published twelve novels and several collections of poetry and short stories throughout her lifetime.
Synopsis
Death Comes for the Archbishop is a 1927 novel by Willa Cather. It concerns the attempts of a Catholic bishop and a priest to establish a diocese in New Mexico Territory. The novel was included on Time Magazine's 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005 as well as the Modern Library's list of the 100 Best Novels.
