Signed by Ellison on title page in blue ink. xv, 334, (2) pp. Publisher's boards over purple cloth spine, lettered in gilt, purple endpapers. Near Fine with light dust-soiling and edge-rubbing, in Very Good+ unclipped ($8.95) dust jacket with chipped head and worn tail, two small tape mends on verso, toning and light wear but no fading. Widely acknowledged as one of Ellison's best story collections, uncommon as a signed first.
Synopsis
Deathbird Stories: A Pantheon of Modern Gods is a 1975 collection of short stories written by Harlan Ellison over a period of ten years; the stories address the theme of modern-day "deities" that have replaced the older, more traditional ones. The collection, with its satirical, skeptical tone, is widely considered one of Ellison's best. The book includes a 1973 introduction and a stern caveat lector page advising the reader against enjoying the volume in one sitting.
