First published in America in 1871; these are Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copies of the Third American Edition from three years later. Bound in the original redish-orange cloth with ruling and decorations in black on the front covers; titling in gilt on the spine. Clean text; very bright and clear; unfoxed. Numerous illustrations within. Volume One has vi, 409 pages. Spine lightly faded, with rub to the head. Volume Two has v, 436 pages, followed by a 12-page catalog. Spine also lightly faded, with rub to the head; rub to the rear edge of the spine. Solid and attractive copies of this seminal work.. Third Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
