What is not in the book ia the reason for the double kiss. Nixon had a reputation for being two faced and .... Ellington kissed both sets. There is another Nixon/jazz story. Nixon & Louis Armstrong were returning from overseas on the same plane. Nixon, the story goes, told Armstrong he loved his playing and asked if he, Nixon, could help Armstrong in any way. Armstrong said he help him by carrying a little bag of his off the plane. So Nixon took it through customs. "it" held Armstrong's stash. .
