About This Item
Oxford University Press. Very Good/No DJ. 1945. First Edition. Hard Cloth Cover. 8vo NAVY BLUE CLOTH WITH VERY BRIGHT GILT TITLING ON SPINE. No ownership marks. A few spots to end papers. 247 pages clean and tight. THIS VOLUME consists of four independent essays, dealing respectively with `Medieval Drama', `The Carol and Fifteenth-Century Lyric', `Popular Narrative Poetry and the Ballad', and the late Arthurian romance of Sir Thomas Malory. Although its interest is centred in the Fifteenth Century, it inevitably takes a somewhat wider range, and looks both backwards and forwards. The beginnings alike of the Drama and of Lyrical Poetry belong to a much earlier period, and the full development of the Ballad cannot be regarded as complete before the Eighteenth Century. .
