About This Item

Alfred A. Knopf, 1927. First edition, first printing. Black cloth-backed decorated paper boards, top edge stain black. Lacking scarce dust jacket. Page edges faintly toned, top stain rubbed, mild wear extremities, middle signature separated, but holding strong. Several of the poem titles have inked checks next to them, otherwise an internally clean copy. Overall very good.. This second book of poetry by Hughes was widely criticized, but undoubtedly helped to solidify his reputation as one of America's most formidable jazz poets.

This particular volume is the personal copy of mid-20th century American poet Edith K Olson, as indicated by the inked signature.
