About This Item

London: J. M. Dent & Co., 1895. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". None. A beautiful and scarce limited edition of Captain Marryat's debut work, with an illustrated frontispiece. This novel was heavily influenced by Marryat's own experiences during his early naval career under Lord Cochrane.Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) was a Royal Navy officer, writer and children's novelist, known for being an early author of nautical fiction. His works were admired by the likes of Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, the most famous being his semi-autobiographical 'Mr. Midshipman Easy' and the children's novel 'The Children of the New Forest'. This is a limited edition printed on handmade paper, with this being No. 208 of 750 copies produced. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with a little bumping to the extremities and very slight fading to the spine. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are uncut and slightly age-toned to the edges, but are otherwise bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
