Philadelphia PA: Chilton Books. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1965. First Edition; First Impression. Hardcover. Beige cloth book has a dedication and is signed by both author and illustrator. Book came out of author's personal estate. The book is dedicated "to Paul" and the inscription is also to Paul. Jean Lee Latham (April 19, 1902 – June 13, 1995) was an American writer who specialized in biographies for children or young adults. Jean Lee Latham was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Her father was a cabinetmaker and her mother was a teacher. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and received an A.B. in 1925. She also attended Ithaca Conservatory. While in Wesleyan College, she wrote plays. In Ithaca, she taught English, history and play production. She continued teaching in Ithaca after finishing her studies at Cornell. Her first book for children was The Story of Eli Whitney. Her book Carry On, Mr. Bowditch won the Newbery Medal in 1956. Rare. ; Illustrations ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 97 pages; Signed by Author & Illustrator .
