Materdomini, Italy: Stampa Valsele Tipografica, 1992. 1st edition. An illustrated guide to the work of Italian master stonemason Francesco Amato (1901-1977.) Signed / inscribed by his son and apprentice, Antonio Amato. The artisanship of Francesco Amato is found throughout the town of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast of southern Italy. 24 pages of introductory text, followed by 80 full-page drawings of fireplaces, windows, sculptures, and other creations in the villas and piazzas of Ravello. All text is in Italian, except for a brief tribute in English by Gore Vidal. (The American writer owned La Rondinaia, a Ravello villa with four Amato fireplaces.) Also includes "Mio padre," a 2-page remembrance by Antonio Amato. 192 pp. Large paperbound quarto. Stiff pictorial wraps. Approx. 11 by 8.25 inches. In matching slipcase box. Near Fine. Appears to be unread. Uncommon, especially signed. WorldCat locates one copy.
