Printed upon hand-made textured Tosa Hanga Japanese milled paper. John Ashbery (b. 1927) has achieved a unique status among American poets. Even though much of his work is difficult to read, avant-garde, and post-modernist in character, Ashbery has become revered and beloved by many readers. For all the obscurity of his writing, his poetry is tantalizing and inspiring. It properly draws many people into its orbit. Even those who dislike Ashbery's poetry acknowledge its force and… Read More

1829 RARE 1ed Huish Animal Kingdom Illustrated Plates Lion Bears Tigers MonkeysRobert Huish's 'The Wonders of the Animal Kingdom' is a 19th-century illustrated work on rare and exotic animals. While the contents of the text are desirable, the real draw of this work is the exquisite illustrations. It is quite rare to find this work with all of the illustrations intact, as the plates are often extracted from the binding and sold individually. Note the attention to detail from H. Smith's illustrations. Published in 1829 London, this first edition work features 63 full-page engravings. This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
