Mannheim, 1807 Part A was published in 1806 and Part B in 1807. Later edition of Karl von Linne's "Systema Naturae (A General System of Nature)" first published in 1735. This edition is edited, and with some additional content, by Carl Christian Gmelin (1762 - 1837; A German botanist, and brother to engraver Wilhelm Friedrich Gmelin (1760 - 1820). Part A pp: [i-iii] iv - vi [30] 1-144 + 30 fold out plates. Part B pp: [12] 195 + 55 fold out plate. Each hand-colored steel engraving is leaf sized and tipped to a blank bound leaf, then folded in. Rebacked with newer leather over spine and corners. Earlier green cloth over boards and original spine labels affixed. Ex-Library with small markings on paste downs, and numbers on blank verso of title page. Green cloth is a bit rubbed and soiled, and name/title label of Part B is chipped. Scattered light foxing, though only minimally affecting plates. Volumes remain tight and plates are generally bright and clean. . First Edition, Thus. Half Leather - Hardbound. Good/No Dust Jacket.

Hinges with modern reinforcement. There is a little separation of two signatures of leaves, though paper remains tight. First four leaves are a little darkened and show a little offsetting; Volume is complete and otherwise in very good condition. Plates with life size representations of spiders are stunning.

Binding shows a couple of very slight scuffs, though remains nearly perfect.
