London: Sidgwick & Jackson, Ltd.. 1924. 1st ed.. 8vo, batiked-paper boards with 1/4 vellum-spine. Printed by the P elican Press and limited to 250 copies. English translation of se venteen verses by Goethe, Schiller, Moerike, Uhland, Hebbel, Theo dor Storm, Keller, Guenther, Gleim, Boie, Hofmannsthal, Liliencro n and Buerger. The Pelican Press was founded in 1916 by Sir Franc is Meynell, with the active involvement of Stanley Morison - a Br itish typographer, designer and historian of printing. He was one of the most influential type-designers of the 20th century, havi ng designed the Times New Roman typeface (1931) and several histo rical revivals for the Monotype Corporation. A couple of stray pe ncil marks on FFEP otherwise absolutely pristine -- as if it came off the press today. In very good glassine d/w with several smal l tears and creases and original cardboard box that is split at a ll 4 hinges. .
