Solid hardcover. ; Heinrich Hackmann was a German pastor in Shanghai from 1894-1901, then traveled through Korea, Japan, China and Burma studying Buddhism. "The present volume is the fruit of a long tour throughout Mongolia, China, Japan, Cambodia, Siam, taken in 1910-1911." Trip was just before the overthrow of the Qing dynasty and establishment of the Republic of China (and also a few years before the outbreak of World War One, although published on its eve).
