Chicago: The Reilly & Lee Co, 1928. First edition, first printing of Thompson's eighth fantastical continuation of Frank Baum's Oz stories. Octavo, original red cloth with color pictorial paper onlay, illustrations by John R. Neill. In good condition. Slight rubbing to the extremities. Watercolor to the illustration on the front pastedown by a previous owner. Ownership signature in black crayon to the ownership page. First issue with the perfect, undamaged 'r' on page 116 and all color plates present and accounted for. Ruth Plumy Thompson was chosen by Baum's publishers to continue the 'Oz' series due to her talent for storytelling and her familiarity with the world of Oz. In 'The Giant Horse of Oz,' she introduces child readers to new and whimsical characters, telling the story of the malevolent lake beast Quiberon's demand for three mortal maidens and two groups' quests to resist him.
