About This Item

Thames & Hudson Ltd., London, 1969. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). Square 4to. 248pp. Brown cloth lettered in gold at the spine. With a colour frontispiece and 370 black and white photographs taken by Ilario Bessi in collaboration with Henry Moore. A virtually fine copy in very good non-price-clipped dust wrapper, a little chafed at the head of the spine panel and at one corner tip, and with the publisher's laminate lifting a fraction at one or two edges. Moore's five-page introduction precedes Ayrton's critical analysis of the work of the Italian mediaeval sculptor: the first such study in English, and the first fully-illustrated account in any language..
