Description

New York: Granta USA and Viking Penguin, 1988. Very good (edgeworn covers) paperback book. Number 24 of Granta, Summer 1988. Contains interesting excerpts from works in progress from Philip Roth ("The Facts"), E.L. Doctorow ("Billy Bathgate"), Tobias Wolff ("This Boy's Life") and others. The lead piece that gives the title to this issue is by Anthony Cavendish, a former employee of the British government's intelligence service, titled "Inside Intelligence," much of which is heavily blacked out--i.e., censored--because of legal action taken by the British government to prevent publication of Cavendish's experiences with the intelligence services during the Cold War, subsequently published with the same title.. 1st Edition thus. Paperback.
