About This Item

London: The Folio Society, 2007. Very Good. Second printing. The book has good tips and clean black cloth boards with gilt lettering. The hinges are very slightly loose. The textblock has a faint erased price indentation on the half-title page corner, else clean with no writing, bookplate, or markings and not BCE, ex-library, or remaindered. 26 pages of black and white illustrations. The slipcase is very good with mild rubbing and shelf wear. 572 pages. 6 1/2" X 9 1/2" tall.

This collection of 43 short stories from six different countries (Russia, Japan, America, Ireland, France, and England) includes such celebrated examples as Samuel Beckett's surreal "Dante and the Lobster", Alexander Pushkin's ghostly "The Queen of Spades" and Colette's witty and sensual "Green Sealing Wax". Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Poe, Cather, Hemmingway, Steinbeck, Wilde, Joyce, Camus, Proust, and Balzac are among the featured writers along with newer triumphs from contemporary writers such as Banana Yoshimoto.
