London: Printed for Richardson and Urquhart under the Royal Exchange and W. Pennington, Kendal, 1778. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No D/J. 8x5x1. Scarce first edition of the first Lakes guide book published 1778. This has been bound into a single book along with The Histories and Antiquities of Tewkesbury from the Earliest Periods to the Present Time, printed by Dyde and Son, Tewkesbury 1790. Also bound into this volume is Thoughts on the Functions and Diseases of the Lymphatic Glands, dated Worcester 1787. Quarter leather with marbled papers to front and rear boards. Marbled paper to front paste down and end papers. Raised bands to spine with gilt lettering. Title to spine is that of Antiquities of Tewkesbury and does not mention Guide to the Lakes or Lymphatic Glands. t.e.g. Rubbing to edges and corners of binding. Stain to edge and bottom edge of text block. A Guide to the Lakes lacks engraved frontispiece however, two plates and fold out are present.
